When you think of the word “anoint” or “anointing”, what comes to mind? Is it maybe Psalm 23? The story of the woman anointing Jesus’ feet? Or maybe the feeling you get when you see someone’s talent that sounds or looks in tune with the spirit? Well, whatever it is, there is a common theme to all of these: The Spirit moves through the power of an anointing.

Isaiah 45:8-10 says “ Rain down, O heavens, from above, Let the clouds pour down righteousness [all the blessings of God] let the earth open up, let salvation bear fruit and righteousness spring up with it. I, the Lord, have created it.” When I read this scripture, I had an image flash before my eyes. An image of an anointing coming down from heaven through the clouds like a waterfall. Dancing through the trees, flowing down into a pool of water at the bottom, and at the bottom was one single sheep. A sheep drinking out of the pool of heavens anointing. As I sat with this image and started painting it, I couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed with emotions on what God is trying to show me, that this is what He’s longing for. Longing for a constant "in tune" relationship with me.

We all got an anointing once we got saved, but I think it’s up to us to stay in tune with the Spirit so we can use the anointing He blessed us with. To bear fruit from it. To sit in stillness with Him. To listen to His voice. To move when He says “move”. To be a sheep that relies on its shepherd and drinks from the true living water what only He can give.

Isaiah 55:10-11 says “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”

So fall like rain, Holy Spirit. Let us drink your anointing and be filled with your presence.
