Matthew 18:12-13 says “What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off?And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off.”

When I read this verse, I can’t help but think of the story about the Prodigal son in Luke. When His son leaves home to live a reckless life and living how he wants to live, he realizes his mistakes and decides to return home to his father, begging for forgiveness. What does his father do? REJOICES! Overjoyed that his boy returned home. Embracing him, kissing him, and throws a huge celebration feast for him because of his return. THIS is what the Father does for His children. For us. His sheep.

When we fall astray, when we wonder, the Lord chases after us with open arms. He wants us to understand His heart for His sheep. No shame. No judgement. Just His joyful embrace when we come home to Him. All of heaven rejoices when the one is found.

So don’t be afraid, return home.
