"New wine must be poured into new wine skins.."
Luke 5:37-39, Jesus talks about how new wine cannot be poured into old wine skins, symbolizing the law. Old wine skins are brittle, not flexable and not willing to change. If wine gets poured into old wine skins, it will burst because only new wine can be put into NEW wine skins, which are stretchable, flexable, and can change for the wine to grow and expand. Just like this annalegy, we can not fit Jesus into our old lives. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life and we need to change into a new creation for Jesus to flourish in us, and the only way is through Jesus Christ.
This painting also has another meaning to me specifically. 2 years ago, my husband and I were pregnant. With so much shock, excitement, and eager to start this next chapter of our lives, miscarriage was NOT on our minds. We lost it. Fast forward to a couple months ago, we had the opportunity to go to a church conference out in Dallas. We were both so eager to get clerity, answers, and just to see what God had in store, but we did not excpect to hear and see so clearly.
As we went into the prayer tent, a lady saw us from afar and pulled us aside. As we were praying and hearing clearly from the Lord, the woman stops and says, "I wrote this a while back, I didnt know who it was for, but I think its for you two." Her Poem was called "New Wine." She goes on to say the process of making new wine. Pressing. Crushing. Waiting. And in the end, you get something beautiful. Wine. Then the next session, the very first song that was played was "New Wine" by Brooke Lidgerwood. How can you make that up..This was God speaking to us and I will never forget that day.
This is what the Lord was doing in our lives. Life over the year was crushing us, but the Lord was shaping us into something more beautiful than we could ever imagine or see at the time. I thank God every day for everything that He has done, and I can not wait to see what His hand is on next.
