What would you do if you saw Jesus?

In Luke 7:36-50, we see an example of what true reverence and worship look like. An unnamed woman heard where Jesus was eating and went out and brought a beautiful alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume to anoint His feet with. Scripture says she knelt behind Him, weeping, tears falling on His feet as she wiped them off with her hair…but she didn’t stop there. She continued to anoint His feet and kiss them..

Can you imagine the beautiful, strong aroma around them? I wonder what it smelled like on His skin.

We see that although a beautiful act of servanthood and worship was displayed, some might see this as wrong. Verse 39 goes on to say that a pharisee saw this and said “If this man were a prophet, he would know what kind of woman is touching him. She’s a sinner!” Jesus replies: “ Look at this woman kneeling here. When I entered your home, you didn’t offer me water to wash the dust from my feet, but she washed them with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You didn’t greet me with a kiss, but from the time I first came in, she has not stopped kissing my feet. You have neglected the courtesy of olive oil to anoint my head, but she has anointed my feet with rare perfume. I tell you, her sins-and they are many-have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love.”

Let this be an example for all of us. Pouring out our love, worship, lives, should be our first priority to the Father. This woman didn’t care who was watching or what it looked like. All she knew is that she was serving her Father who came to save her.

I ask the question again: What would you do if you saw Jesus?
