Blindness, mud, and a miracle.
As Jesus and His disciples went along, they saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned? This man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Now, let’s stop right here for a sec. We still think like this today. That our actions and choices are the reason for our life circumstances that we sometimes can’t control. But what Jesus says next is why we see these things happen the way that they do.
“Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” Jesus replied, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” After saying this, He spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the mans eyes. “Go” He told him, “wash in the pool of Siloam.”
When the man washed His eyes…he could see.
This painting represents what it might have looked like when he was getting his vision back. I wonder, what was the first thing he saw when he finally opened his eyes for the first time? Was it the water? Was it his hands? The sky? Or...was it Jesus standing infront of him?
While I was reading this passage, verse 3 stuck out to me. “But this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him..” This man, blind from birth, lived without seeing, without being able to express through color, has been healed to reveal Gods miraculous work. Miracles that no one can explain. Things that are displayed that don’t make sense..and that same God who healed the blind man, is the same God that still does miracles like this today.
If youre in a season of healing, longing for healing, the Lord wants to do something with it. The hard part is that sometimes He heals, and sometimes He doesn’t. But behind every story, there’s something much bigger that He’s revealing that we cannot understand. Something we cannot see with our own eyes until the day the Lord decides to reveal it. Your story might help someone else!
So don’t lose hope. Keep praying, Keep seeking Him, because
He is powerful.
He is all knowing.
He is Holy.
He is so tender and kind.
He is a miracle worker.
